Funeria
promotes and sells original, finely handcrafted urns, vessels, and personal
memorial art made by artists, to those who seek art to honor a beautiful
life.
Our
goal is to lighten the burden placed on loved ones - and soften the
fear for ourselves - when what remains of the physical self is no more
than ashes and dust. One artist's vision at the close of the 20th century
has now opened an alliance between two groups: artists whose creativity
compels them to express beauty, and those who seek art as a means to
honor a beautiful life.
The
inevitability of death, and our comfort with it, is experienced differently
- often dramatically so - among the world's cultures. In common among
us, however, is our sorrow for the loss of a loved one's vitality, wisdom,
humor, and idiosyncrasies. We may have questions, and the answers are
gone.
What
we can have, however, in remembrance of a singular life, is easily available
when we allay fear and sadness with art and beauty. Art is communicative
and can help to heal a troubled heart. The art we choose in honor
of another, or for ourselves, stands in for us when we're no longer
here.
Overall,
the goal of Funeria is to:
- Provide
consumers and collectors with fine art/fine craft options in funerary
urns and vessels - original artwork that is beautiful in itself, apart
from its stated purpose.
- Advance
the concept that art and beauty sanctify life and that in choosing
a functional work of art that more genuinely represents ourselves
or a loved one, we may assuage sorrow and our own fears
of death.
- Provide
a new, selective venue through which creative and talented artists
can exhibit and sell their work.
- Create
a genuinely pleasant and interesting alternative and non-funereal
environment for selecting a funerary urn or vessel.
- Offer
a broader range of prices to consumers that reflects tasteful, artful
choices at all price levels.
Funeria
is an outgrowth of Tannery Creek Press - a small publishing company
founded in 1992 whose primary focus has been to help individuals find
the words and means to honor their own lives, or the lives of those
they love. Titles in print include My Life - Truths, Tales, Memories,
and Dreams - a way to write your life story, and From Here to
There & Back Again - a travel writer's tool kit. Tannery Creek
Press is particularly noted for incorporating a uniquely inviting style
and fine handcraftwork in all design details.
